The British Burn Association (BBA) and the International Society for Burn Injuries (ISBI) are coming together in August in a uniquely collaborative event, combining the BBA's 55th annual meeting and the ISBI's 22nd biennial congress.

The ISBI can trace its roots back to the first International Congress on Research in Burns, which took place in Maryland, USA over six decades ago in 1960. All of the participants at the inaugural event considered it to be such a success that a second congress was organised in Scotland five years later. One delegate at this event, Mr. A.B.Wallace founded the ISBI immediately afterwards, becoming its Secretary General. The organisation now counts over 1,000 members in 95 countries all over the world and its stated primary aim is to 'disseminate knowledge and stimulate prevention in the field of burns'.
Founded in 1968, the BBA is a national charity dedicated to 'reducing the incidence and noxious effect of burning injury'. Any person who is interested in helping to achieve this aim is welcome to join and the organisation's membership is extremely diverse, including many medical professions from surgeons and physicians to scientists and nurses.
The meetings normally conclude with the Wallace Lecture that is delivered by a speaker who has made outstanding contributions to the field of burn care. Events scheduled at the meeting include numerous keynote speeches including the traditional Wallace lecture, which is delivered by a guest speaker who has 'made outstanding contributions to the field of burn care'. This year's speaker is Jacky Edwards from Manchester, whose lecture will be on the subject of 'Healing Patients and Teams'. There will also be plenty of opportunities for networking for professionals, who will be able to share information and knowledge.
A key feature of the event (the full title of which is 'Exchanging Knowledge to Improve Burn Care Around the World - Facing the Future') will be the trade exhibition, where a variety of organisations will be showcasing the latest innovations in technology, services and products related to burn care. This is where you will find Medigarments Ltd, which will be located at stand number 8.
The event will take place at the ICC in Birmingham over five days from the 18th of August to the 22nd of August inclusive.
