The MHAW campaign was initiated by the Mental Health Foundation, an organisation that has been 'leading the UK in building good mental health' since is was established over seven decades ago in 1949. The Mental Health Foundation seeks to 'build a society where everybody can thrive' and create 'fundamental change in the UK’s approach to mental health'. It achieves this in various ways, including:
- Carrying out research and development into finding new and more effective methods of protecting and supporting mental health
- Providing resources and evidence-backed advice to anyone who needs it
- Working closely with local communities and partnering with a range of organisations to share information and improve services
- Organising and running UK-wide events and campaigns such as MHAW
MHAW 2024 is supported by several high-profile companies and organisations including Pinterest, the National Lottery, Sport England and JCDecaux. The event has a different theme each year; this year's theme will be 'Movement: Moving More for our Mental Health'.

The theme has been chosen to highlight the fundamental connection between physical movement and mental health. Movement enhances mental wellbeing in numerous ways, from boosting mood and self-esteem to reducing the incidence and severity of anxiety, stress and depression. MHAW 2024 aims to help people find more opportunities to move and thus to experience the associated mental health benefits.
Many people struggle to get enough movement and exercise into their daily lives and it can be even more challenging for those who have conditions that affect their mobility, such as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's and numerous others.
Medigarments Ltd created the SDO® (Sensory Dynamic Orthosis™) collection of garments to help people to manage the symptoms caused by mobility-affecting conditions. Our dynamic compression garments are made using Lycra® of exceptional quality and have been clinically proven to deliver an array of benefits, from increasing proprioceptive and sensory feedback to improving musculoskeletal alignment and stability.
