It is a well-known fact that scars can be extremely traumatic to those who sustain them in terms of both physical and mental health. In the medical community, it is equally well-known that the most effective methods of treating scars are by applying silicone or pressure therapies.

It is often the case that combining both of these forms of treatment can deliver the best results, but such a combination has in the past, been challenging. That was until the introduction of Silon-TEX® II.

Silon-TEX^® II is a silicone-bonded textile with a durable layer of silicone on one side, which can be custom-formed and sewn directly into Jobskin Premium and Jobskin® Classic made-to-measure pressure garments for burns and scar management. The incorporation of silicone-bonded textiles into pressure garments ensures that the garment remains soft, comfortable, and lightweight while providing a strong solution that adapts to the shape and movement of the body. The pliable nature of this material makes it ideal for integration into garments.

This versatile fabric not only enhances comfort and performance but also maintains its core features of durability and silicone properties. The flexibility and breathability of Silon-TEX^® II fabric ensure a high level of user comfort, making it an excellent choice for a wide range of applications in medical apparel.

In addition, Silon-TEX^® II is available in pad form, comprising a silicone-bonded textile with a layer of premium silicone on one side. These pads can be custom-formed and sewn into made-to-measure pressure garments, combining silicone therapy with pressure therapy. This unique combination allows patients with burn scars to experience the beneficial effects of both treatments.

In crafting the pads, Inter­pen­et­rating Polymer Network technology (patented as Silon-IPN^®) is used. The technology involves weaving Teflon™ (polyt­et­raf­lu­oro­et­hylene or PTFE) with silicone; when woven together, these two biopolymers create a mutually-penetrating structure of matrices.

There are different formulations of silicone; some are designed to be soft and compliant, while, at the opposite end of the scale, others deliver a high level of strength and stiffness. In another triumphant example of seamless combination, Silon-TEX^® II pads provide the best of both worlds. The silicone membrane is soft, thin and flexible making it comfortable and practical to be used on practically any part of the body. At the same time, the Teflon™ works to reinforce the silicone, ensuring plenty of strength and durability.  

Patient compliance is dependent to a large degree on how comfortable any wearable medical device is and this quality is enhanced by the fact that the silicone membranes are breathable. As Silon-TEX^® II pads are sewn into the pressure garment, they cannot be lost or forgotten about. They also cannot slip out of place.
